Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC
Picnic Bay SLSC, Magnetic Island
Picnic Bay SLSC was established in 1927 and since that time has shown a proven commitment to providing the public with a high standard of vigilance and service within the aquatic environment. Our focus is primarily on surf safety for beachgoers, resuscitate and first aid public education. Picnic Bay surf lifesavers are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and have maintained beach safety in Townsville for the past 85 years with an impeccable record of zero fatalities on patrolled beaches.
The Strand, Townsville
It was in the 90’s that the club decided to secure a base on mainland Townsville and in 1999 saw this dream come to fruition with the opening of its Strand clubhouse. “With the move to the mainland the Club has significantly expanded its area of surveillance. Patrols still cover Picnic Bay and its adjacent areas but now include the Strand beach.” The club is only one of a handful of Australian clubs to patrol 2 beaches. In 2010 the Picnic Bay Club had a name change and are now known as “Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC”
