The Strand, Townsville
In 2002 the Arcadian SLSC Junior Lifesaving Clubhouse, located in the Rockpool Precinct of The Strand, was opened. This new Townsville base provided facilities to expand our popular Nippers program to the mainland, as well as an additional venue for Club training and much needed storage for equipment such as Inflatable Rescue Boats and boards. Our Junior Activities and Youth Development program has now grown to over 200 children each season and also includes a Cadets program for teens, training the next generation of lifesavers.
Alma Bay, Magnetic Island
The Arcadian Surf Life Saving Club was established in 1928 by a small group of mates after a fatal shark attack shook the local community of Magnetic Island. Today’s surf club has grown to over 400 members with just under 100 active patrolling members and two Clubhouse bases however our commitment remains the same, to provide the highest level of vigilance and service to keep beachgoers safe. Arcadian SLSC provides volunteer lifesaver patrols at beautiful Alma Bay beach on Magnetic Island every full weekend and public holiday during the season, as well as water safety services for local sporting and recreational events. We also run two Junior Activities (Nippers) programs simultaneously, one at Alma Bay for children who reside on Magnetic Island and another on the Strand, Townsville for mainland based children.
